LKFrom October 2013 to December 2016 I was Head of Learning at the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney, responsible for all visitor programs, formal education programs and audience research. Previous to this I was Manager of Online, Editing and Audience Research at the Australian Museum, Sydney, responsible for the overall management of the Museum’s extensive digital programs, including developing and evaluating the Museum’s digital content and activities. I have been working in the research, evaluation and visitor research fields since 1994 and in the museum industry since 1987, with extensive knowledge of museum learning, audience research and evaluation, new media, digital technologies and social media. I have also worked as a Human Resource Manager and in staff development/ training with qualifications in HR and teaching experience in this subject area through NSW TAFE.

I have published widely on audience research, learning and digital trends in the cultural sector, as well as a keynote speaker at a range of national and international conferences. In 2007 I completed my PhD in museum learning, and in 2010 released, Hot Topics, Public Culture, Museums, co-edited with Dr Fiona Cameron, University of Western Sydney. I am principal author of the popular professional development blog Museums and the Digital with an average monthly readership of 660.

During 2012-2013 I taught Museums and the Digital in the Master of Museum Studies program, University of Sydney (in Sydney and Hong Kong), and am on the Advisory Board of the New Media Consortium Horizons Project looking at technologies in museum education. To date, I have participated as a Principal Investigator in seven Australian Research Council grants as well as receiving numerous other industry grants.

In 2017 I was awarded a prestigious Osher Fellowship at the Exploratorium, San Francisco.

I am also a member of the Museums Australia National Council, 2015-2019, and was previously on the Boards of ICOM CECA and INTERCOM and ICOM Australia. I am the Convenor of the Evaluation and Visitor Research National Network of Museums Australia.

At the end of 2016 I relocated to the beautiful Southern Highlands with my partner, Maurice, to establish a small farm, Abbeydore, which is where my business is primarily based.
